There are many aspects that affect computer running speed. Though Microsoft said that they have optimized it to the top, it is still possible for you to do some flexible modifications to speed up Windows XP.
1) Turn off the special efficacy in system properties, which is the simplest way to speed up Windows XP: right click “My Computer” to select “Properties” ->Advanced ->Performance -> Settings ->Visual effects ->tick “Adjust for the best performance” ->Apply ->OK. Hence, you can enjoy not only a beautiful blue interface, but also a faster Windows XP effectively.
2) Modify the Run key within Windows registry to cancel some items that do not use frequently such as Windows Messenger. First please run registry editor ->then locate the following key“HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run/MSMSGS”/BACKGROUND ->right click to delete it.
3) Modify the registry to reduce the prefetch and the waiting time of the progress bar so as to speed up Windows XP: open registry editor ->find “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession ManagerMemory ManagementPrefetchParameters” ->change the value of “EnablePrefetcher” to “1”.
4) Increase the speed to browse the share data on LAN. Normally, when Windows XP is connecting to other computers, it will thoroughly detect the scheduled tasks on the machine, which will waste at least 30s. So you can disable this setting to get a faster Windows XP: run registry editor -> delete “{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}” under “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrent VersionExplorerRemoteComputerNameSpace” -> restart your computer. After that, when starting up the computer, it will not detect the scheduled tasks, and greatly speed up the computer.
5) Turn off debugger Dr. Watson to speed up Windows XP. You can run registry editor -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionAeDebug-> double click the “Auto” key and then change its value to” -> last press “F5” to make the modification effect. Adopt this idea, we can also cancel all options which have the debug feature like the “memory.dmp” when blue screen : right click “My Computer” to select “Properties” -> Advanced ->Startup and Recovery ->Settings ->select “None” within “write debugging information”.
With the simple modifications above, you can simply speed up Windows XP to some extent massively. But to always make it run faster, please do remember to insist on taking some measurements like disk cleanup and disk defragmenter.
